Claude or ChatGPT for a business: how to choose

This question comes up constantly and it has a dull answer: for a small business the difference between the two is smaller than the time spent deciding. Both handle the daily work of writing, summarising and rephrasing, and the differences between them change every few months.

On price they are nearly identical

We checked both vendors' own pricing pages in September 2026. At every level relevant to a business — a paid individual subscription, a business seat for a team, and an expanded seat — the two companies sit in the same range, a few dollars apart.

There are deliberately no figures here. The price in Israel differs from the official USD price, and it moves. One aggregator we saw quoted a figure several times the American one, which is exactly why not to print a number: the real number is the one that appears on your own checkout page, and only there.

One thing worth knowing: one of the two has a cheaper subscription below the standard tier. If budget is the question, that is where to look.

What does differ

One is broader — images, voice, more tools around it. The other is narrower and more focused on text and code, and holds more content at once, which matters when you hand it a long document. That is an accurate description of today and not of next year.

We write this knowing the comparison will date. The two companies overtake each other every few months, so any comparison you read, including this one, is a snapshot with a date on it.

What actually separates them for a business

Not capability, but control. Both sell a business subscription, and that is what it buys: seat management, what happens to the information you put in, and who in the organisation sees what. That is the one difference worth reading in the terms yourself before paying, because it is the one that decides whether you may use the tool for your work at all.
